AEW Dynamite 8/5 Show Preview

AEW Dynamite continues its streak of stacked shows on the August 5th edition. Ever since the ratings war with WWE’s NXT started to ramp up two months ago, AEW has put out multiple big matches every week on Wednesday nights. While some would say some of these matches should be saved for bigger events down the road, it is actually a pretty genius move by AEW. By continuing to give this much great content every week, they keep their viewers engaged in a time when it’s hard to keep an audience for two hours.

The August 5th Dynamite is headlined by Jon Moxley defending his AEW World Championship against the enigmatic Darby Allin. There are two other huge matches on this card and both are tag team matches. One features the in-ring debut of Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE, teaming with Cody against members of the Dark Order. The other has 3 of the top tag teams in the world teaming up when the AEW Tag Team Champions, Kenny Omega & “Hangman” Adam Page, the Young Bucks, and FTR unite to battle the main members of the Dark Order in a massive 12 man tag team match.

These matches aren’t the only big segments being promoted for Dynamite this week. Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy will have a debate which will have a special guest moderator. And lastly, MJF will give us an update on his campaign to become AEW World Champion after his match with the World Champion was made official for the All Out event in September.

Jon Moxley vs. Darby Allin – AEW World Championship

Jon Moxley and Darby Allin have wrestled in the past and that match was very exciting. This time, however, Moxley is the AEW World Champion and his title will be on the line. While this will be another great match between the two, both of their paths after this showdown are pretty clear which makes the outcome of the match very predictable.

Moxley is heading into a feud with the number one contender, MJF, as AEW makes its way to the All Out event on September 5th. And Darby Allin looks to be on a path to a one on one match with Brian Cage, possibly for the FTW Championship. This means there is literally no way Allin defeats Moxley for the title. I mean wrestling has had it’s massive swerves in the past but those two feuds seem pretty set in stone. While Allin won’t win, he will get main event spotlight here and this match should be given plenty of time due to the two stars involved. Don’t rule out MJF and/or Brian Cage interfering at some point during this bout.

12 Man Tag Team Match

Being a massive wrestling fan, I can’t think of any other time in my 25 year fascination with the business of a time when 3 of the legit best tag teams on the planet teamed up together. That will happen Wednesday night when Kenny Omega & Adam “Hangman” Page, the Young Bucks, and FTR join forces. This alone shows how incredible the AEW Tag Team division is. To me, the AEW Tag Team Championship is the most important title in the company. That division is where the big competition is and it is also the division that has been fleshed out the most since AEW was created early last year.

This 3 incredibly talented teams will face Brodie Lee and the combined might of his Dark Order. This match has chaos written all over it. Bodies will be flying everywhere and the referee will have a hard time keeping this under control. But what intrigues me most is what comes out of this match. FTR facing off against the tag champs and Young Bucks in the near future is inevitable. But which match happens first? And what will come of Hangman Page’s newfound friendship with FTR? There are so many stories to be written here which makes AEW must watch television every week.
