PGA 3M Open – 3 Players To Watch
Mathew Wolff – In 2019, playing on a sponsor’s exemption, Wolff became the 3rd player in PGA history to win an individual NCAA championship and Tour event in the same year. In doing so, he joined a group that includes Tiger Woods and Ben Crenshaw.
In 2020, Wolff has been hit or miss. Recently he did score a T2 at the Rocket Mortgage over Fourth of July weekend, and his performance at TPC Twin Cities last year was nothing short of spectacular: 69-67-62-65, for a one-shot win over Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa. He’s one of the best drivers of the golf ball out there: 6th in driving distance. Wolff finished T22 at the Memorial and we should keep an eye on the defending Champion.
Doc Redman – Keep an eye on Doc! Redman had three consecutive top-25 finishes before forgetting how to putt struggling with the putter at Memorial. Even though he gained over three strokes ball striking in just two rounds, he lost an otherworldly six strokes on the greens. Now, Doc isn’t the best at putting, however he did gain over three strokes with his flagstick in three of past six starts coming in. If Doc continues to strike the ball at an elite level, he can be a sneak pick to win this week’s tournament.
Dustin Johnson – Fairly weak field this week so if there was a week to lean on a big favorite, it’s this one. DJ is coming off possibly his worst performance as a pro: an 80-80 MC at the Memorial that left him four shots out of LAST PLACE. Plus, he’s a TPC Twin Cities rookie.
With that said, he still is the 4th ranked player in the WORLD. Dustin Johnson is less than a month removed from his 21st career win, extending his streak to 13 straight season with a victory, so his A-game is near!
