New York Islanders 20 Games Into the 2018-19 Season

This New York Islanders team is fun to watch!  What we learned so far this year is that this team is well coached.   For the first time since Al Arbour the team can play some defense. Barry Trotz has tightened up pretty much the same defense that was so horrible last season.  As a result of good coaching we have seen a decreased goals against and shots on goal.  Goaltending has been above expectations.

New York Islanders Team Record & Key Player Performance

At this point the New York Islanders are 10-7-2 as we approach a Thanksgiving Eve game Vs the New York Rangers.

Mathew Barzal is still putting up points, but he’s not scoring goals. That’s a concern for the 20 goal scorer because the lack of goal scoring will lead defenses to focus on stopping his passing, which will take his game away. He’s already shown that he’s not exactly a first line center, a role that Brock Nelson is managing.

Josh Bailey is scoring goals!  Lets see if he can score 20 for the first time in 11 years this season.

Anders Lee is showing what hard work and skill looks like, as he assumed the team captaincy.  We are not sure if he is worth an 8 year contract but we can table this topic for now.

New York Islanders Have Been Solid

Through the first 20 games the team has been solid.  They have been chipping in goals, making key plays, and pretty much turning the hockey experts on their ear.

So Islander fans, it looks like we have reason for optimism this year!  Keep those picks rolling in by playing Islanders Fantasy Hockey on StatementGames!
